How to pick a just right book? There are two things I say to children, first thinking about the daily 5 literacy management program in elementary IPICK is good to help children remember the keys: Interest, Purpose, Comprehension and Knowledge. Books need to be in the readers level not too easy or not too hard. Many teachers use the 5 finger rule where a child picks a text and if they get 5 or more wrong the book is put away and tried at a latter date. For struggling readers I try to get them hooked into a series because if they like it they will read all of it. At a later date, I will post links to daily 5.
